My tribute to Darby for artcritical. You won't pick up on this from the piece—by design—but I intended it partly to rectify the utterly mangled understanding of modernist abstraction I've encountered over the years, discussed, for example, here and here. Jenny Greenberg told me that Clement always insisted, quoting Shakespeare, that truth will out. May it be so.

Shakespeare was overly optimistic. As A. N. Whitehead once said, even God forgets. I suggest to whomever is interested in Darby's reputation, that it is important to work on that starting now. It won't happen by itself.
