Exhibition weekend roundup

Post #886 • October 12, 2006, 11:02 AM • 9 Comments

I'm taking Friday off to travel, prep, and all for the show this weekend, so here's the roundup. The short version: Dorsch, Saturday, 7 - 10. Elisabeth Condon and Magali Wilensky are also in effect. Hope to see you there.

The Vatican will soon reopen its necropolis.

Ken Johnson isn't afraid to dish out a few smacks. That's encouraging. (Despite Edgers' understandable boosterism, discouraging signs linger.)

1 Week of Art Works. (Kottke)

The ever-colorful Grayson Perry covers Frieze in London. (AJ)

The Nietzsche Family Circus. (Reddit)

The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library. (NPR)

Department of Skills: Let's dance. Also, I adore the new Intel Core 2 Duo commercials.

The Vatican necropolis should be an interesting experience. I'd like to see that, but I think I'll wait until they reopen Nero's Domus Aurea to visitors. No telling how long that will take.

What's this "elit" that anyone would want to name an art movement after it?

it's short for e-literatti,which is people who think they can write about art art after looking at it on the internet.

This is opposed by the e-sentialists, who think you should not talk sbout art until you actually see it.

The debate is more-or-less a stand-off, except the elitists usually prevail because they talk about art more.
