Richard Merkin, 1938-2009

Post #1388 • September 10, 2009, 11:17 AM • 2 Comments

Richard Merkin, longtime teacher at the Rhode Island School of Design and a prolific painter and illustrator, died this week. The New Yorker, for whom he produced three covers and nearly 300 interior illustrations, has an appreciation. Poking around on the Web turned up this Charlie Rose interview in which he discusses his contriubtion to an anthology of Tiajuana bibles. Rest in peace. (via)

Doris,
Richard grew up on Curch and Nostrand. He went to Erasmus HS. This must be the same boy that you remember. I would love to hear stories.
