Miami modernist report

I've been hearing from my painter friends in Miami lately. George Bethea (link fixed) has been painting up a storm, as is evidenced by his Flickr stream. Likewise Kathleen Staples, who is showing at Bas Fisher Invitational through May 9. George's work is really pushing the outer limits of weirdness lately, but it only seems to help, and Kathleen has found a fascinating midpoint between gesture and hard-edge and is working it to great effect. Bravo to both.
