the four seasons
Images taken at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, from "The Four Seasons," by the artist duo known as Guerra de la Paz. They assemble their sculptures from secondhand clothes and other readily available materials. Baroque and ornate, the sculptures display an exceptionally high level of labor-intensity while maintaining their sense of humor.
Each of the scultpures relates to one of the four seasons, and you don't need to know a whole lot more than that to evaluate them. Their use of the figure comes off as awkward and excessively illustrational, but the big abstract pieces have spirit, and a room with four trees, each in it's own season, was charming to the point of inducing guilt. Although definitely a real-art experience, I could see kids getting into it in a big way. The one inside my head had a good time.
Miami is much less advanced than previously imagined eddie. I feel sorry for the people who organized it, and those who suffered by being exposed to it. What we need here is a bad art vaccine to protect the children and the more susceptible.
I was inoculated a couple of years back against this sort of thing.
I like these, a lot - at least based on the images. I'd like to see this in person.

Gee, I looked first at the images without reading Franklin's comment and thought it was a NYC show.
Franklin, do you have a new camera, or are you just very happy? I hope we may expect such exhaustive and lavish visual coverage of exhibitions as a matter of course now.
Guy: Catfish mistook this for a NY show. Does that mean that Miami is less advanced than previously imagined, or that New York is more retrogressive? I think I just confused myself.
Denise: To you, I very much recommend this show.
Oldpro: that goes without saying. After the soul-ripping burnout of preparing for my show, I found this quite refreshing. Not life-altering, but pleasant.
Catfish: I guess I don't have to move up there then, eh?
Jack: Perhaps. I just figured out how to work the Batch command in Photoshop. Two paragraphs and a ton of shots sure gets the point across, doesn't it? I think we have a format.
I think the format, that is lots of colored pix, is obviously a goo diea.
Franklin, has it occurred to you yet that these rumpled masses of brightly colored cloth are quite similar in feeling to your recent pictures?

Oh...Well, that's different...yes...it's really meant for department store display windows...But of course...We knew it all along...truly, how could it be otherwise?
Sometimes, rarely, the White Rabbit is of some use, which is the only reason he still has a head. Yes...store window displays...how very clever!!! Have the "Guerra" persons brought in to see us...We have some brilliant ideas for them to work on, involving lots and lots of flamingos...

I suspect that most of the naysayers would be seduced a bit were they to see these works in person. I have not seen this show, but I saw the Eden work that was installed at MAM recently, and it was very nice. A lot of thier genius lies in how they use the materials to represent the subject, not necessarily in the subject itself. Hey, I'm as negative as the next Artblog reader, so trust me when I say I liked the work even though I didn't want to. Give it a shot, guys.

The funny thing about this blog is that nobody is talking about the content of the work itself, instead we have a bunch of nagging bitches writing whether they like it or not.
